It's weird to me. It seems that Kodiak genuinely wants to be friends with Nate but just doesn't know how because they were raised so differently and enjoy such radically different things. His expressions are so weirdly earnest, like he wants to see Nate enjoying the same things he enjoys, and he gets genuinely angry because Nate said they weren't friends.
I dunno, I might be looking too much into it, but there seems to be a lot more to Kodiak than a first glance suggests.
